The woman behind the design
My dad was an adventurous sort and in 1952 he decided that the whole family would move from Long Beach, California, to Juneau, Alaska, where he could make his fortune. Alaska in the early fifties was a wild place, not yet a state. We all lived on an old mink farm out in the forest, next to a glacier, and brown bears and the occasional grizzly were frequent visitors.
In Juneau I remember flying down the steep snowy street in front of our miner's tenement on a sled; I remember the trees growing so thick that I could run for miles on their tips. Or did I?
As of December 2011, I've visited 35 states (15.5%); so many places still to see...
